The Radical Women of Cycling - Jakarta: A Celebration of Strength and Community

As we embrace the warmth of July in the Northern Hemisphere and look forward to brighter days in the Southern Hemisphere, we’re excited to launch the first annual ‘Radical Women of Cycling’ ride series. This global initiative is all about celebrating the incredible women who are pushing the sport of cycling forward, and we’re thrilled to bring this movement to Jakarta.

Our collaboration between @maap.cc and MOF goes beyond just riding; it’s about recognizing and honoring the amazing, strong, and radical women who are making a difference in cycling. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or new to the sport, you are part of a community that is breaking barriers and championing the inclusion of more women on bikes.

The inspiration for this series comes from last summer, when MAAP rider Kelsey Smith and MAAP’s close friend Kristen Kuzemko co-created and piloted the first ‘Radical Women of Cycling’ ride out of Luft in Los Angeles. Building on that success, we are now expanding the series globally, with the sole aim of amplifying femme voices and encouraging more women and women-identifying cyclists to ride together in safe, welcoming spaces.

Here in Jakarta, our ride is being led by MAAP Ambassador @sigiwimala and our friend @corrycortine. We’re embarking on the famous “dalkot loop”, starting from the shop and winding through the vibrant streets of the city. We’ll end the ride with a gathering over coffee and snacks—a perfect opportunity to connect and share stories.

But the day doesn’t stop there. After the ride, we’re hosting a workshop on basic roadside fixes, giving everyone the essential skills to handle those unexpected moments on the road with confidence.

Celebrating the radical women of cycling, supporting each other, and inspiring more women to get out and ride. Together, we’re creating a stronger, more inclusive cycling community.
